Innovative production technology
You can only face the challenges of a global market if you are the best. One field in which Aachen engineers work at the highest level is production technology.
RWTH Aachen University in particular offers an unusual density and variety of fields of work, from the planning of new production technologies, plastic technology, mechanical engineering, laser or aerospace technology, automation engineering or sensor technology, right through to the training of quality experts and industrial economists.
Research and development
The Technology Region Aachen offers users and providers of innovative production technologies excellent opportunities. Firms from the fields of automotive and electrical engineering, precision engineering, optical and medical engineering as well as structural steel and mechanical engineering and tool manufacture in particular can profit from the region's strengths. read more>>
Companies at the location
Large firms and highly-specialised small and medium-sized enterprises from a wide variety of branches come to the Technology Region Aachen to profit from its innovation-friendly climate. The strengths of the region have led to the foundation of over 150 production engineering-oriented RWTH spin-offs over the past years. Firms such as Parsytec, a specialist for surface control systems, or ProLas Produktionslaser, experts for laser engineering, stand for the success and rise of business start-ups from the region. Suppliers for the IT branch also find an ideal breeding ground in the region: For example, Aixtron, the world's leading manufacturer of production plants for connecting semiconductors, was founded here. Not to mention other high-tech producers and developers such as Prometec (development, production and world-wide sales of systems for tool and machine monitoring and process analysis), Cerobear (a leading manufacturer of ceramic rolling bearings) or the Gesellschaft für Industrieforschung GIF (a service provider in research and development questions). The fact that Ford, Saint-Gobain, Ericsson, Philips and Siemens have all invested in the region speaks for the convincing arguments offered by the Aachen region. All of these use the location advantages offered by the region.

The goal of the competence network for optical technologies and systems, PhotonAix e.V., is to maintain and extend the international leading position of German industry in network-coordinated partnerships through the use of optical technologies. The network offers technology providers and users that concentrate on manufacturing and measuring technologies opportunities for cooperation in all aspects of laser technology. PhotonAix is a member of the nationwide initiative kompetenznetze.de of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The competence network Proteca is a regional platform for spin-offs and medium-sized to large production technology companies who develop and produce high-tech products The network and its partners covers the complete production technology chain, starting from planning and organisation through the manufacturing process and machines used right down to quality management. Proteca is a member of the nationwide initiative kompetenznetze.de of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
