Life sciences
The Technology Region Aachen has attracted attention over the past years as an ideal location for research, development and training. Life sciences are hereby characterised by an unique concentration and interdisciplinary co-operation between engineering sciences, natural sciences and institutions from Aachen University Clinic. These conditions can be found nowhere else in the world. The protagonists are particularly concerned about promoting the co-operation between research institutions and companies in the Aachen region and the Euregio Maas-Rhein.
Companies at the location
Not only traditional firms such as Grünenthal GmbH, but also a large number of newly founded companies such as PAION AG or Matricel GmbH and numerous private research and development service providers have put the Aachen region firmly on the global map in the innovative fields of biotechnology and medical technology. The number of university spin-offs is growing beyond proportion along with the companies already established in the region.
Competence networks
Various competence networks and regional life science initiatives are working on networking the research institutions, companies and investors and on the successful further development of Aachen as a location for biotechnology and medical technology.
Research and development
Exemplary foci of life sciences research in the region are bioprocess technology, diagnostic and therapeutic methods, the development of biomaterials as well as minimal invasive medicine. These research fields shape the profile of life sciences in the region.
The life sciences sector has grown steadily over the past five years. The region currently has around 180 companies in the fields of medical technology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, including the numerous suppliers and service providers. It concentrates contacts, experience and knowledge in the field of life sciences and is the contract office in the Euregio Maas-Rhein for international investors. |
