Companies
More than 60,000 industrial companies feel very much at home in the Aachen region. Some of them would like to tell you why:
| "Celonic is an international service company for process development and production of pharmaceuticals active agents. We value the geographical proximity to the Research Centre Jülich and the networking with partners in this cross-border region. These are excellent location factors which contribute to making the Aachen region one of the fastest growing biotechnology locations in Germany."
Dr. Andreas Herrmann, Managing Director, Celonic GmbH

| "True to the motto that „innovation knows no bounds“, the European Microsoft Innovation Center pursues the philosophy of open innovation. The key idea is to transform innovative ideas in close co-operation with partners from industry and academia into socially relevant, job-creating technologies. Particularly regional co-operation plays a crucial role in the context of research clusters which are proven to promote innovation. In this light, we selected Aachen as one of the leading high-tech regions in Europe which can boast, beside RWTH Aachen University, Ford, Philips and numerous innovative SMEs, an excellent central location."
Dr. Götz Brasche, Program Director and Speaker, European Microsoft Innovations Center EMIC

| „Grünenthal and the Wirtz family have their roots in Aachen. That will stay that way, even if we are increasingly active on an international scale as experts for pain and gynaecology and as pioneers of new ways of administering drugs. In the last three years, we have invested 50 million Euros in the construction of a training centre and of one of Germany’s most modern packaging centres in Aachen. Over the next three years, we will be investing a further 52 million Euros. Around 17 million of that sum will be devoted to the new office building; the construction of a new multifunction pharmasynthesis will absorb the remaining 35 million Euros.“
Sebastian Wirtz, Former Acting Partner, Grünenthal GmbH |
| "Thanks to the excellent infrastructure, start-up support and economic dynamism of the region, IASON consulting has undergone a very satisfactory development since its inception three years ago. At the interface between Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, excellent companies are operating highly successfully in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry. We are proud that some of these firms are now our clients. The proximity to the universities and other research organisations, such as the Research Centre Jülich, fosters research excellence on the one hand, and on the other, creates a pool of highly qualified scientists from which we as a young company can recruit. We are convinced that the region will gain in importance in the future and we are investing in this perspective. The international connections via the nearby airports Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn and Maastricht-Aachen are also practical. An attractive location, however you look at it!"

| „The Euregio Meuse Rhine is a very open and tolerant region with international flair - I can make that claim with confidence in the light of my considerable travelling commitments and diverse international contacts. Young members of staff which are just starting their careers like it here a great deal – also due to the varied cultural activities and the truly excellent infrastructure – as do the more experienced colleagues. We either recruit staff which are from the region or have made a conscious decision in favour of Aachen and the Euregio. If one asks colleagues as to their satisfaction, one hears high praise. I regard this as a remarkable signal for the region as a whole and naturally also for Aachen and our company in a narrower sense.“

| "It is no coincidence that the Philips research laboratory is located in Aachen. The extensive, excellent research and development competence as well as the variety of potential co-operation partners and innovative, technology-oriented companies are unique. The research location Aachen thus plays a key role in Philips’ innovations."
Dr. Ralf Raue, Head of Strategy & Information, Philips Research Laboratories |
| "Team 4 chose the Aachen region as its preferred location to start up its business in 1996. The region has excellent transport links to the media cities Düsseldorf and Köln and ensures swift international connections through its proximity to Brussels and Amsterdam. RWTH Aachen University guarantees a large resource of qualified graduates for our team. The openness to innovation in the region brings forth good ideas which are integrated into Team4`s strategies and products."
Detmar Przybylski, CEO, Team4 GmbH

"Aachen has an optimum strategic position thanks to its proximity to the European Headquarters of Ford in Cologne, the test track in Lommel, Belgium, the ease with which important partners in Brussels and Paris can be reached and the numerous airports nearby. And: the region offers a wealth of automotive competence, in terms of both industry and teaching. Our biggest capital lies in the quality and qualification of our employees, for whom Aachen has a lot to offer in terms of standards of living as a border town close to the Eifel and bigger cities such as Cologne and Dusseldorf."
Dr. Charles Wu, Managing Director, Ford Research Center Aachen
