The GründerRegion Aachen is a regional initiative that is supported by the economic development agencies, commercial chambers, savings banks and credit unions, universities, research institutions, towns and municipalities as well as AGIT. There are almost 40 advisory offices in the CityRegion Aachen as well as the districts of Heinsberg, Düren and Euskirchen under the umbrella of the network GründerRegion. The initiative was set up in 2000 and has set itself the goal of improving the quality and quantity of start-ups and creating valuable synergy effects through coordination and cooperation in support for the start-ups. The most important project of the GründerRegion Aachen is AC² that was set up in 2003 with a pilot start-up competition.

AC² - the start-up competition supports all persons interested in starting a company on their path to entrepreneurship. Within the scope of the AC² start-up competition, persons who want to found a company draw up a business plan together with a mentor. Step by step the teams learn to edit their business concept, plan their market launch, establish a financing strategy, set up a team. The agency and advisory institutions in the FounderRegion accompany the start-ups after the competition phase.

The Gründerkolleg (Start-up College) sees itself as the first port of call for persons interested in setting up a company from the RWTH environment. The most important services are the start-up mobilisation that should arouse an interest in self-employment. The start-up coaching satisfies the wishes and needs of the potential entrepreneurs through advice. The start-up training is the heart of the "gründerkolleg". This is a one-week compact seminar on all aspects of setting up a business. In the Business Plan Workshop the participants learn how to draw up a business plan and come to terms with the assessment criteria of investors.

The "Become an entrepreneur" events at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences help students in technical courses to learn the methods of business administration and train the necessary start-up and company management skills. The events are split into key sections: business administration for engineers, company seminars, company management, start-up coaching.

The MBA course in entrepreneurship is also offered by the Aachen University of Applied Sciences and is aimed at founders of new businesses and executives. The combination of various courses should pave the way to a business start-up or company takeover and facilitate the start in management.
